Originally from Quebec, Canada, the Charron family settled into a new home within the Moxee Valley during the early 1900s. In 1911, Leon Charron Sr. began drilling a 1300 foot well, where he discovered enough water to supply not only his own family homestead, but the rest of the town as well. Because of this significant discovery, farming flourished throughout the valley and growing hops quickly became an integral component of the town of Moxee, including within the Charron family. Leon’s son, Sebastian, carried on the tradition of family farming in 1942 by planting 20 acres of his own, including hops and other various crops. Hop farming was soon the main focus on the farm and by 1981, Sebastian had formally established C & C Hop Farms with his son, Bob, and daughter, Cindy. Upon marrying Cindy, Keith Houser also joined the family farm, and became heavily involved in the growing operations and later, a Yakima Chief Hops board member.
Today, C & C Hop Farms is a reputable fourth generation family farm that takes great pride in their rich heritage and production of high quality hops. They strive to stay current with brewers’ needs by growing a wide range of hop varieties. C & C Hop Farms has received highly respected awards including MillerCoors Hop Grower of the Year in 2009, 2012 and 2014. They were also the recipient of the 2015 Hop Quality Group Cascade Cup.
